Reporting live from the Golden Globes…

…while sitting on my couch, of course! HA! I wish I was actually there in person! Alas, I am not, BUT since I am watching it live, I am able to see every award in “real time” which is kind of the same thing, right? No, no. You’re right, it’s not the same thing at all, but damn, I sure wish it was! Anyway, enough trying to get you interested in this post by making you think I am a red carpet reporter…

esq-2012-golden-globes-red-carpet-011412-mdn-300x199Adele just won the Golden Globe for her song, Skyfall, for the latest James Bond film. Up in the category with her was Taylor Swift for the hauntingly beautiful song she sang with the Civil Wars for The Hunger Games, which I wrote about when the film came out, even though I feel that the song better depicts the emotions from the novel itself. While I of course feel that Adele is deserving and I quite simply ADORE HER, I wish that there was a dual award so that Taylor could have also won because it was by far her BEST song to date! It is one of those tunes that makes you feel, deep down in your gut and to the furthest depths of your heart. The softness of her voice and the power of the lyrics are insanely captivating…so, I wanted to give it some airtime here, again on my blog, which is like getting a Golden Globe, right? Oh shush and let me revel in my self proclaimed brilliance! 😉 Watch this and delve into the beauty, the sadness, and the brilliance…

Safe and Sound
(Featuring The Civil Wars)

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I’ll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don’t leave me here alone
But all that’s dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Don’t you dare look out your window
Darling everything’s on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when the music’s gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You’ll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I’ll be safe and sound

Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
La La (La La)
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)

Just close your eyes
You’ll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I’ll be safe and sound…

Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh oh oh. [x7]

…and CONGRATULATIONS to the much deserved wins that went to Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook, Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables, Damian Lewis, Claire Danes & Homeland, Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained, Disney and Pixar’s Brave, Ben Affleck for Argo, Hugh Jackman for Les Miserables, Les Miserables for Best Picture – Comedy or Musical, Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty, Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, and Argo for Best Picture – Drama.

Thanks for joining me and goodnight! 😀

I love both Adele and Taylor. I think Taylor does have more growing to do though. If she performs more songs like this, rather than the boy songs, she could be at the top with Adele. She has the talent, she just needs to step away from the Teeny bop crap. Songs about Ex-boyfriends can go so far. I think she’s great with lyrics and performing, I just feel like she has so much more depth to offer, but either she won’t let herself go or her manager won’t, trying to cash in on one gimmick.

I couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said. When she released this song I was so confused and convinced that it was The Civil Wars and that someone on the radio had made an error. It’s the best thing Taylor has ever done and hopefully, like you said, she will go back to it at some point and become a serious singer like Adele. Great comment! 🙂

Ha ha thanks! I just realized however, that Adele sings about her ex-boyfriends too. She has a more soulful sound so didn’t really think about it. They really are quite alike, just different styles. *sigh* why do men have to ruin everything, including good songwriters?! lol

Who knows, but at least on Adele’s side she at least has a more adult take on her lyrics, even though most are about heartbreak. Taylor’s are more teeny-bopper. Lol but you make a good point, again.

Thanks for the post. Have been too busy to watch, so I was happy to get this in my email. And, I, for one, think you’re as good as any red carpet reporter! Couch reporting—perfect!

As much as I agree with all the above, I have to put a huge spotlight on the very talented Lena Dunham. 26 years old, writer, producer and actress all rolled into one and got a Globe for her very first amazing show “GIRLS”.

Great post! I didn’t even realize that was Taylor Swift’s song until I watched the Golden Globes. Adele is truly an amazing singer so I thought she was the clear winner, but Taylor is great and deserved her nomination. With Taylor, I think she’s at that point in her life where her music will begin to mature along with her and we’ll start hearing more songs like this one from her in the very near future. I do have to admit, I still really enjoy her teeny boppery pop songs. They are just plain fun to listen to! Oh, and I also totally loved the gorgeous gown she wore to the Golden Globes. She looked fantastic! ~Chrissy

Thanks for your comment! I totally agree that Adele was the absolute clear winner, she is amazing. I hope Taylor will grow up in her music style soon, but I too, like some of her teeny bop songs. Haha! Just think that this song in particular is so beautiful that it was a toss up for me because it was so out of character for her. Oh and I totally agree with you about how she looked, however, I thought Lucy Liu’s dress was the absolute best. Totally gorgeous!
